Today we flew from Ho Chi Minh City to Shanghai. A four hour flight seemed like nothing after the twenty-four hour journey that we had a few days ago. Shanghai’s airport was impressively huge and there was no humidity in Shanghai which was definitely pleasant. Here our guide was Candy who was as impressive as Van was in Vietnam. Shanghai’s airport is about half an hour away from the centre city and on the way I was surprised to see the amount of development that was going on in Shanghai. From the airport we went to Pudong, the western side of the city of Shanghai. There are some amazing buildings in that area including the TV Tower, World Financial Centre and a few other buildings owned by multinational organizations. In the afternoon we took a short walk on Nanjing Road where there were a lot of expensive shopping malls with worldwide name brands. The surprising thing was that there were very few shoppers in those expensive shops in the malls.

In the evening we had our first family style Chinese dinner with very different Chinese food. The taste of the food was definitely not what we are used to in America. The noticeable thing was that the soup was served at the end of the entire course of meal. At night we went to Xintiandi area or French concession to have a flavor of the Chinese night life. It was a full of life place where a lot of foreigners and rich locals hang out.
