May 23, 2011 was an exciting day, full of anxiety to try get to the airport on time and to fly to Vietnam for the first time in my life. The flight was on time and it was pleasant to see everyone all excited and full of stamina to board the sixteen hour flight to Hong Kong and then another four hours to Vietnam. I was able to get some sleep on the plane but towards the end of the flight a noise awoke me, and I was shocked to see that one of my class fellows was laying unconscious on the seat a couple of rows behind me. Thank goodness the situation turned around, and he felt better within a few minutes. We were all tired when we got off that plane in Hong Kong and did not want to board the second leg of the journey to Ho Chi Minh City. I just wanted to hit the pillow at that time. But anyways, the flight to Ho Chi Minh City left on time. My first impression of Ho Chi Minh City from the window of the plane was that the city was built highly unorganized. The airport seemed to be of a decent size. It was very hot and humid when we got out of the terminal building and headed towards our bus. In the bus our guide Van handed us an envelope full of money and said that we each had a million. Actually fifty dollars were equivalent to a million Dongs. The guide seemed to be a very polite, courteous and knowledgeable person.
